Linville Falls 1 Mile
Linville Falls (2.8 miles): This hike offers five different perspectives of the waterfalls in two short sections. The first section, known as the Erwins View Trail, takes you to three overlooks where you'll appreciate the power of the water that carved the gorge (1.8 miles RT). The second section offers views of the lower falls as it plunges into a basin, and then into Linville River itself (1.0 mile RT). Additionally, there's another trail (1.4 miles RT) that leads you to Linville Gorge from this trailhead as well.

Wisemans View
For one of the most spectacular views in the North Carolina mountains, head to Wiseman's View on the western side of Linville Gorge (often called the "Grand Canyon of Eastern America"). Find two stone observation areas perched on the cliff at about 3,400 feet elevation. About 1,500 feet below you is the Linville River and directly across the deepest gorge in the eastern USA are the dramatic peaks of Hawksbill (left in photo above) and Table Rock (right) mountains.

Grandfather Mountain, near Linville, is famous for its “Mile High Swinging Bridge,” panoramic vistas, wildlife and superb alpine hiking. The wild, undeveloped parts of the Mountain are state-owned and operated as Grandfather Mountain State Park.

Linn Cove Viaduct, Milepost 304.4
The award-winning, quarter-mile Linn Cove Viaduct hugs the face of Grandfather Mountain and is recognized internationally as an engineering marvel. The rugged slopes of Grandfather Mountain proved a challenging task to engineers as they completed the last section of the Parkway here in 1987, 52 years after construction began. It is a masterpiece of engineering that preserves the beauty and protects the fragile and ecologically sensitive slopes of Grandfather Mountain by curving naturally with the mountain’s contours.
